Privacy Policy
Plain English: what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to opt out. There are two sections worth reading closely: the maps, and the information we publish about solicitors.
Effective 12 September 2026
Who we are
This site is operated by Digital Signet Limited, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. Digital Signet Limited is the data controller. Contact: [email protected]. We are independent and are not a law firm, not a solicitor, and not affiliated with the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Law Society. Nothing here is legal advice.
What we collect from readers
No accounts, no logins, no sign-up forms for readers. We never ask about your case, and there is no enquiry form that sends your circumstances anywhere. The cost estimates run in your browser. This site sets no cookies of its own and uses no localStorage or sessionStorage for its directory or maps.
Aggregate analytics. Google Analytics 4 records your visit (page viewed, referring page, device type, approximate location by country or region, and a pseudonymous identifier). IP addresses are anonymised.
Advertising cookies. On pages that show an ad, our advertising partners may set cookies or read advertising identifiers in order to select and measure those ads.
Maps
Directory pages can show a map. The map tiles are loaded from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), using data from OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your browser requests those tiles directly, which means the tile provider receives your IP address and the area of the map you are viewing, as any image request would. The map only loads when you scroll it into view, so if you never reach a map, no request is made. We do not send your location to the tile provider and the site does not ask for your device location.
Information we publish about solicitors
The directory is built from the Solicitors Regulation Authority's published register of regulated firms: firm name, SRA number, regulated office address, and published contact details. That is business contact information about a regulated entity, taken from a public statutory register. We publish it to help people find and check a firm, which is the purpose the register exists for. We do not add personal information about individual solicitors beyond what the register publishes, and we do not publish client information of any kind.
If you are connected with a listed firm and believe an entry is wrong, out of date, or should not appear, email [email protected] with the firm name and SRA number. We will correct or remove it. Where the underlying error is in the SRA register itself, we will tell you so, because our copy refreshes from it.
If you claim a listing, we process the contact details you give us for that purpose only: to verify you are connected with the firm and to manage the listing. We do not use them for marketing and we do not pass them to advertisers.
How this site is funded, and your choices
This site is free to read and is supported by display advertising. Ads are served by Journey by Mediavine (operated by Mediavine, Inc.) together with a network of authorised third-party advertising partners, listed at mediavine.com/ad-partners and mirrored in our ads.txt. Those partners use cookies, mobile advertising identifiers and similar technologies to select, deliver and measure ads, including interest-based advertising. No firm can pay to rank higher in the directory or to change a cost estimate, and advertising has no influence on what we publish.
UK and EU visitors. Advertising partners rely on your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), collected through Mediavine's Consent Management Platform, the banner shown on your first visit. You can change or withdraw consent at any time there, or by clearing this site's cookies.
US visitors. Under CCPA/CPRA and similar state laws, interest-based advertising can count as a "sale" or "share" of personal information. Opt out using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control in the cookie banner, the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, or optout.aboutads.info. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
Providers, retention and your rights
Providers processing data on our behalf or receiving it as described: Cloudflare (DNS, security, hosting), Google Analytics (aggregate statistics), Mediavine (advertising), and OpenFreeMap (map tiles). Some process data in the United States and other countries; where UK or EU law applies to a transfer we rely on safeguards such as adequacy arrangements or standard contractual clauses.
We hold no personal data about readers. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then aggregated or deleted. Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of the data we hold about you (access), correct it (rectification), delete it (erasure), limit what we do with it (restriction), object to our processing, stop it being sold or shared for targeted advertising, and withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we will act within one month. You can also complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.
Children and changes
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
